In this video
Welcome to the premium version of my Top 5 Strumming Patterns lesson!
The benefit of this premium version is that each pattern is tabbed out in interactive tab player and synced to clips from the video. In my opinion, this is the easiest and best way to understand rhythms, tab and to provide you with the help you need to learn guitar faster!
We also cover a suggested chord change to try with each strumming pattern. Remember, learning the pattern alone isn't much use, you need to be able to change chords while keeping the strumming going to the correct rhythm and feel - that's the trick!
For more help and guidance with strumming, check out the Strumming course, which is included in your AAA membership!
TAB for Pattern 1 (0:38 in main video)
This video uses an easy pattern to introduce the concept of hitting the thinner strings only on the up strums by the technique of a very slight rocking motion in the wrist.
TAB for Pattern 2 (2:43 in main video)
This is the most common strumming pattern ever, which follows on perfectly from pattern 1 in the video above. If you can do this one with the recommended the chord change, you're a solid beginner guitar player!
TAB for Pattern 3 (5:35 in main video)
This is generally considered to be the 2nd most common strumming pattern for beginner strumming songs. This actually uses a concept of 16th strumming, which we will be covering more in depth in the later patterns.
TAB for Pattern 4 (8:09 in main video)
TAB for Pattern 5 (0:44 in main video)
Folk style pattern where we begin to pick single notes then strum. In this case, these single notes are the root notes of each chord.
Dave Grohl video (mentioned in Andy's video)
The legend himself provides some great insight about thinking of strumming patterns rhythmically and seeing strings like different drums. Even if you're not a drummer I think this perspective helps a lot of people.
