In this video
Hannah explains the theory of 3 fundamental voice types and the differences between them.
Lesson aims
Breaking down and distinguishing between the types of singing voices
Experimenting with techniques to help discover your voice
Exercise 1 - Chest and Head voice
Discover the key differences between chest (belting) and head ('breathy') voice
Practice finding the feeling and tone of singing in head and chest voice
Exercise 2 - Mix voice
The mix voice can have chest voice characteristics, but without tiring our voice which can happen when belting in chest too often
To find this position in the voice, imagine a blend of a chest and head voice or 'in-between' the two voices
Exercise 3 - Doing Sirens between your chest and head voice
This exercise is useful for helping bridge the gap between the chest and head voice
Start with saying a 'hung' and by using the 'uh' in the word, you set up the larynx (throat) to be in a low position
Try and experiment with the sirens to smooth out the breaks in transition between the voice positions
