Swing Rhythm Practice Jam Track

In this video

I put your 2-5-1 rhythm chords into a real musical context with the first jam track of this bootcamp. The 16-bar track is split into two sections: the first eight bars focus on straight on-the-beat comping, and the final eight bars introduce swing feel to really lock you into that jazz groove.

What you will learn:

  • Timing and groove — keeping solid time while navigating chord changes

  • Smooth transitions — using anchor fingers to move cleanly between D minor 7, G7, and C major 7

  • G7 muting — keeping the low E string muted with both the fretting and picking hands for a clean three string sound

  • Optional C major 7 variation — an alternate shape to add variety to your comping

  • Swing rhythm comping — applying that signature delayed up-strum bounce over the jam track

  • Optional passing notes — adding chromatic movement between the C and D chords for extra jazz flavour
