In this video
I show you exercises that directly benefit your fretting hand, the hand that we use for chords and even lead playing. We have looked at Hammer-ons and they hugely effective as a skill as well as an exercise for building strength in the hand; just like with Flick-offs.
Exercises: 2 finger combinations for Hammer-ons and Flick-offs
Below are all the finger combinations we can do for these exercises.
Hammer-ons
Hammer-on finger 1 to 2 - up and down each string for example
1 to 3
1 to 4
2 to 3
2 to 4
3 to 4
Flick-offs
Flick-off finger 2 to 1 - up and down each string
3 to 1 (This combination is recommended!)
4 to 1
3 to 2
4 to 2
4 to 3
Top Tip
Whichever finger combination you choose when flicking-off:
Have both of those fingers down initially
Pick (first finger down of which ever combination - e.g. 3 to 1)
Flick-off (first finger down has flicked-off to next finger which was placed down too)
Slow and steady is going to build the strength in your hand!
This just makes that feeling of flicking-off feel more comfortable when we first try it
