In this video
One of the easiest Beatles songs to play on guitar - Love Me Do - It's perfect for building confidence with basic chords and changes.
Three Essential Chords:
G major: a few fingering options here (standard, all four fingers, 'George Harrison' G)
C major: Top Tip! Have the fingers on an angle, elbow into side for easier stretch
D major: Classic triangle shape
Cadd9: optional embellishment anytime C major appears
Strumming:
Basic version: on the beat (two strums per chord)
Embellished version: available in bonus video with swing feel
Practice Tips:
Make chord shapes in the air before pressing down
Lift off and repeat to build muscle memory
Choose whichever G chord variation allows quickest changes
'George Harrison G' is good for changes to the C major chord!
Basic Song Structure:
Verse: "Love, love me do..." (G-C pattern)
Bridge: "So please..." (stay on C)
Return to G-C: "Love me do"
Middle section: "Someone to love" (D-C-G)
Here's a video to show you how to do the swing strumming properly that really elevates the song and our own playing. You may recognise it from many other Beatles tunes and It's adaptable to Oasis songs and more!
This particular chord is made easier by paying attention to the angle of our fingers on the fretboard and also making our hand into a 'claw' helping us fret correctly
These are 2 essential details that we continue to pay attention to from beginner to intermediate and beyond!
