05 Beginner Level 2 Track 2 - E E A A Rock mute

Here's the performance video and downloadable audio jam track for Beginner Level 2 - Jam track 2.

Aims

  • Use the outside of the palm to mute the strings

  • Perform the 'strum, strum, mute' rhythm

In this track there are gaps called 'mutes' where we don't play and we use the outside of the palm to completely stop the strings vibrating. It sounds cool but also allows us a moment to prepare the chord hand to place the E or A major chord as accurately as possible.

This gap in playing can be a chance to rest the fingers too, as they don't need to be squeezing the fretboard throughout the whole jam track.
