Satisfaction is the first riff in this course that moves to a different string, making it slightly more challenging.

This riff introduces the Slide technique where you move from one fret to another while maintaining pressure, creating that smooth gliding sound that's essential to the Stones' style.

Main Learning Points:

  • Starting position: index finger at fret 2, string 5

  • Utilise pauses that is controlled by relaxing the fretting finger

  • Ring finger Slides from fret 4 to fret 5

  • Right hand can be loose because left hand is muting

  • Index finger muting = "easy as ringing a bell" - No other strings can ring out

Tone:

For authentic Satisfaction tone, use a fuzz pedal or fuzz setting if available (digital amps like the Spark 40 typically have this).

The original used a Maestro Fuzz-Tone, creating that distinctive fuzzy distortion.

Practice Goal:

  • Play the riff four times through without stopping (we call this "cycling" the riff)

  • Once you can do this, jam along to the original Rolling Stones recording or the Andy Guitar Band version.

The full band play-along version lets you see everything being played and gives you the authentic experience of joining in with other musicians.

Join in with my band to play this fantastic song!

Learn four crucial rhythm concepts that will transform your playing: tempo, BPM (beats per minute), metronome use, and foot tapping. These concepts are often overlooked but make a huge difference in learning songs and playing with others.
