My Generation is one of the great British rock anthems and a perfect song for developing your one-string technique with quick position changes!
This song introduces playing the same riff pattern at different positions on the neck - a fundamental skill that translates to everything from chords to scales.
Main Lesson Points:
Jump between 2 notes on string 6 with the third and first finger (3rd and 1st frets too!)
In verse breaks, completely mute with strumming hand AND relax fretting hand
After bass solo, riff moves to 5th fret and 3rd fret
Moving riff across the neck!
This epic one-string version gets you playing along to the full song immediately but we can introduce chords to the riff in a way, so you know there is always more to get out of these great songs!
Here's the full tutorial, starting with the one finger version but then moving on to show how we can play the full song closer to the original recording, including Pete Townsends signature lead fills!
