Technique week 11 - Add vibe and attitude to your playing
Welcome to week 11 of the Technique weekly challenge!
Today we look at simple techniques to help add vibe & attitude into your playing!
Exercise 1 - Define What Your Vibe Is
To help with finding your own vibe, we should look towards our inspirations
- Think about some of your favourite guitar players
- Try narrow down to 1, 2 or 3 players who’s style inspires you
- Have a clear image of them, the songs/music they play, the vibe they put out
Writing exercise;
- What do you connect with in their playing?
- What words come to mind when you think of them?
- Energetic? Swagger? Laid back? Quiet? Loud? Iconic?
Without this vibe & attitude sometimes the things we play sound like ‘going through the motions’ or sound/feel like we’re still in the practicing stage rather than having that performance edge to it, like our guitar hero’s have.
Exercise 2 - Practice How You Want To Perform
- Choose specific songs you want to play
- Practice the parts & songs well, until you’re really comfortable playing them
- Think of a player you’d love to hear play a particular song & what they would specifically add to it with their playing
- Finally, give it some vibe!
However big or small the changes with this process, you are adding that vibe, style & attitude of the greats to your own playing.
Remember to write your key thoughts down on a print out of this PDF as a reminder of what vibe you’re looking for & keep coming back to it for that boost in your playing, to raise performance level or just to have fun exploring all these great ideas!
