Guitar frets become very wide at frets 1, 2 and 3. Therefore, power chords can be tricky when played lower down the neck.

In this video, I show you a few tips on how to make this easier. I also show you how they get used with open strings to create riffs, which you can jam along to with the audio track that accompanies this lesson!

Remember, with power chords, you can play two or three strings without changing the sound much. This is because the extra note added is the octave of the lowest note, so you're just doubling up the same note but at a higher pitch. Either 2 or 3 string power chords are generally interchangeable and are the players choice.
