In this video

Welcome to this module where we'll be learning some essential licks and lead guitar concepts with the intention of getting you started with improvising your own lead guitar solos.

This first video discusses an essential concept of how music and lead playing can and should be treated as a language.

If we imagine scales to be the alphabet of lead guitar, then licks are like words. A lead guitar phrase combines licks to form sentences and a combination of phrases create a paragraph - a guitar solo!

This is how we can learn to combine scales and licks to make phrases and use this to form lead improvisation on the fly!

Personally, I think of the different style and genres of music as different accents or dialects. Many students find this concept very useful, so be sure to remember it while you learn these licks and practice your improvisation!

Next Up: Easy Minor Pentatonic Licks

Well done! Let's jump into the next video of the course.
