Here's an exercise that I created to help increase speed with hammer ons and flick offs.
Hammer ons and flick offs enable us to a play faster sequence of notes MUCH easier than picking everything. They also give a smooth sound to the playing and can be known as ‘legato’ playing, which is Italian for ‘tied together’.
This riff was inspired my the opening notes and 1st solo of 'Love On The Rocks' by The Darkness, and Dan Hawkins of said band is one of my personal primary influences as a guitarist. If you like my licks and rhythm playing, I genuinely learned so much of it through learning songs from their debut album 'Permission To Land' as it came out when I was 16 and I learned every note, it rocks!
