The Standard Tuning Riff

The second guitar part starts on a Bb chord, with a following rundown pattern. The key is playing strings 2, 3 and 4 only, which captures the essence of the riff without needing open G tuning.

The Chord Voicings

For the F chord, use the half-barre shape with your thumb muting the thickest two strings and your middle finger lifting off to create movement. And then, the Bb chord uses a Hendrix-inspired voicing that opens up major pentatonic possibilities too.

Ronnie Wood's Solo

This Ronnie solo uses F major pentatonic (which shares the same shape as D minor pentatonic – bonus!!) featuring classic rock "slash bends" – those big, expressive bends that sound country-influenced. The second section uses Bb triads and the legendary rock guitar technique ‘double stops’ higher up the neck.
