Here's is my Top 5 Beginner Mistakes On Electric Guitar.

What mistakes did you make early on that you want to warn others about? How about:

  • Too much gain or too many effects!

  • Wanting what you can’t have - new gear! to shred! Plexi tone! (Rather than building on what you can do, building on your strengths, don't get disheartened out by your weaknesses)

  • Tensing the strumming hand/ pressing down way too hard

  • Minor pentatonic? What about the MAJOR scale!

  • Struggling with thicker gauger strings (Use THINNER strings while developing technique, then move on to higher gauge)

  • Possibly BIGGEST mistake! No musical outlet - such as, bands, jamming with friends, recording yourself playing, youtube videos, open mic, jam nights, playing at a friends birthday

BONUS - expecting too much in the SHORT term, under-estimating what can be achieved in the long term;

  • Those who have the goals and expectations in place FIRST get to where they want to go quicker

  • Those that want results NOW, but have no idea where they actually want to end up, go slow

  • If you jump in, have a destination in mind, you might not get there, but you’ll get somewhere!

  • If you jump in with no destination in mind at all, where are you going to end up?

  • Musical outlets again!; bands, youtube videos, open mic, recording, jam nights, jamming with friends, playing at a friends birthday
