Triads in D Major

Course: Triads & Tricks for Chord & Soloing Freedom

In this video

I'll show you how to use the triad shapes we look at in the previous lesson but there aren't any new shapes to learn - yay!

What is different though, is the positions on the neck and the introduction of a pedal note (a sustained note over other notes/chords) in this case an open D note, that will make this lesson focussed in D major.

By going through this lesson you'll be more prepared to look at songs that use these triad techniques:

  • Under Pressure by Queen

  • Hole Hearted by Extreme

  • and loads more you'll likely think of yourself if you listen out for this 'triad sound'.

Just like with the C chord in the last lesson, we'll learn:

  • Tonic triad

  • 1st and 2nd inversions

but it's also very fun to move this D major shape around and leave the D string open over the top of the shifting chords- just use your ear and if it sounds right, it likely is right!

Next Up: Triads in G and A

Well done! Let's jump into the next lesson of the course.
