Jazz Practice Routine

In this video

I bring everything together in a final practice routine designed to be your daily roadmap for internalising all the jazz skills from this bootcamp. I walk through each element, from basic chord drills to advanced improvisation, and show you how to structure your practice for real progress.

What you will learn:

  • Daily chord drill — revising the 2-5-1 chords with swing until the changes are second nature

  • Diatonic chord exploration — practising as many chord shapes and arpeggios as possible across the neck

  • Arpeggio practice over jam tracks — running the Dm7, G7, and Cmaj7 arpeggios with swing and economy picking

  • Full diatonic arpeggio drill — running through all seven diatonic arpeggios to build complete jazz vocabulary (all in key of C in 1 position of the neck. Great exercise that sounds musical!)

  • C major scale practice — reinforcing the scale as your soloing foundation

  • Chromatic enclosure application — hunting for chromatic notes around your shapes and applying enclosures freely

  • Improvisation with your ear — using all the techniques together and trusting your ear to guide your lines

  • Swing feel reinforcement — constantly checking your timing and keeping that delayed second eighth note bounce

  • Eighth note triplet integration — adding triplet speed runs into your improvisation for bebop flavour
