Acoustic Requests and Amy Winehouse Songs

In this video

A bonus live stream this week because I've been away in Brazil for a couple of weeks and wanted to check in with members. It's mostly an all-request session, with a bit of catching up on what's been going on while I've been away.

The big news: Intermediate Electric Level 4 went live this morning — Solid Rhythm Guitar, the start of the work that takes you towards grade 4 electric. Level 5 should follow at the end of the month. There are also loads of band interviews on the way, with Marmozets landing this week and a Zoom interview with Joe Satriani confirmed for next Tuesday, which is probably the biggest name I've had on so far.

On the request side, I help Martin with the fast E minor section of the "Live Forever" solo using SoundSlice, share a tip with Rose on how ukulele and guitar relate to each other once you capo at the fifth fret, and break down Nick Cave's "Oh Children" for Camilla — chords, strumming, and where the change actually lands in the chorus.

Then, because Amy Winehouse is the end-of-June Open Mic Sunday theme, I jam through a good chunk of her catalogue — "Valerie," "Back to Black," "You Know I'm No Good," "Tears Dry On Their Own" and "Love Is a Losing Game" — pulling out the chord moves and little songwriting tricks that make each one work, and finishing with a quick nod to RAYE doing something similar on her latest album.

Plenty of proper tutorials to come out of this one. Thanks for joining me, and I'll see you next time.
