Welcome to day 2 of 10 day Beatles guitar for beginners. This is where primarily acoustic guitarists can get 10 easy Beatles songs under their belt and learn a bit about how to play beginner guitar and improve our guitar skills along the way. Today we're looking at another easy 3 chord song. This is Twist and Shout from the Beatles' first album. This uses the simple chords, D major. G major. And A major. We have a few different options and we can also add in. The little melody. As an optional added extra if you wish, but the priority here is for beginners to learn these simple 3 chords, so let's have a look at it from that point of view first. But you'll find bonus videos available on the website andy guitar.co.uk. The link is at the top of the description, and it's all for free. That's where you'll find the chord sheet and also some tab to follow as well if you need it. Let's have a look at these 3 chords, D major. With index, middle, and ring finger. All on an angle with the thumb muting the thickest Estring so that we can strum. 6 strings easily, but that one doesn't ring out. We then play a G chord, and I like to go for the G where we use an anchor finger here. And have all four fingers down in a bit more of the Noel Gallagher or perhaps Neil Young style. And the A chord is where we have the most variations, we have the beginner friendly A. Which then pivots from the index finger to the D chord, so that's handy for some people. We also have 3 in a line, which is perhaps the more well known and more popular. The one that I prefer because I've often played electric guitar in my life, is a one finger A chord where we're essentially doing this as a bar. It is this one we'd probably need if you want to add. The little melody. Because that index finger is already. There and we're already ready to do this stretch. To do that we'd need to kink this knuckle just here. And that is how we can even get the thinnest string ringing out. And then we can add that melody on 024. When we add that melody, it is easier to play what's called a D power chord. Really only strumming, strings 23 and 4. And just having two fingers down or barring. The D like this So let's break both of those down one final time, really slow. Basic beginner option is just D, D, G, G, A, and 2 and 3 and 4, and D. 8 and 2 and 3, however you wanna do it, however, if your fingertips are really hurting and they're getting lines on them. This A will really save your fingertips cos it gives them a few precious seconds of rest. G A a baby now. And it's really Answer that er the John Lennon vocal being the question and then the McCartney and Harrison er shake it up baby, that's the one that actually goes to the rhythm of what we're strumming. Twist and shout. And shall Now come on So that's how you can get the rhythm of it without having to count. The added little extra. 12341. 2 and 3 and 4 and, and on the A chord again, thumb is set on top, knuckles really curled over. And that, with that string mute it means I don't have to stop my strumming motion just to pick string 5. I can kind of keep that. That strumming motion going all the time, always hitting those thicker strings. You choose which option you go for, I'm gonna go for the basic option first of all, let's have a bit of a play through now and get to the middle section where we just stay on the A chord and go. You know which one I mean, let's play along together. So we're ready on the D major chord and get ready for the counting. 1234. And 2 and 3 and And one baby now. Twist and shout. Baby, now Looks so good 2 and 3 finish on. That is one verse, there's two of those and then a little solo. The solo essentially just plays these same three chords, and we just, if we can, we just wanna copy the rhythm of that solo. D D G G A and A. G G So same thing, we're just copying that rhythm. Or you could just keep playing the riff, or you could just go straight into the. What that section is doing is playing the A major chord with 8th all down strumming, splitting a bar into 81 and 2 and 3 and 4, and, and it happens 6 times. It's 6 bars or 6 R Rs, 6 of those. Let's do that together. Ready? 1234. 2234. and then G and Then we finish on And this time it's only 4. And that's how to play twist and Shout.
