In this video

This John Lennon classic introduces strumming that has a Waltz-like feel. This strumming has a smooth swaying feel due to the 3/4 time and a change in rhythm to go along with it.

Capo Setup:

  • Capo at 2nd fret (puts song in comfortable key)

  • Uses basic chords: D, C, G, Dm, Em, A

Main Verse Chords:

  • Can stay on D major throughout entire verse (simplest approach)

  • Embellishment option: Cadd9 to G/B (a G chord without middle finger)

Choose either based on comfort with the strumming pattern

Strumming Technique:

  • Really small twist of wrist, like wafting a feather

  • Keep it loose, no forearm tension

  • Emphasise the strong beat a bit, and the trick is to de-emphasise the "ands"

Full arrangement with melody and chords together!
