Thank you for joining me for day 8 of 10 Day Beatles guitar. Today we're looking at the acoustic classic in my life. Now, I've done a full tutorial for this before without a capo, standard tuning, and I'll leave that video directly. Below. I want to give an alternative version to that. From practically checking out uh Ultimate guitar, this chord sheet is way more popular like in the thousands, so the cappa, the second fret puts this in the key of G major, and we can play, I will show you a way to play this without any bar chords. However, the uh one bar chord we will have in the proper way to play this fashion would be C minor. With a capo or a capo at the 2nd fret, that does lower the strings and makes this barcode significantly easier. But it is more of an intermediate level chord as a heads up. More help with bar chords can be found in the intermediate, uh, guitar course we have available, intermediate acoustic, but let's have a look at how we can play this full song, including this intro melody. And we'll look at how to do this in finger style. And we could even do this with the. We'll be covering how we can play that too, but let's have a look what the capo at the 2nd fret does to these chords. We have G major. D E minor G7 All my life 5, that's C to C minor and G major. That gives us most of the guitar moves we need to get to make sure this is a song that you can play. OK, alternative to the C minor, and it's based on the C major, if we just play. Uh, string 23 and 4. These are three notes from a C minor chord, so this is 101 at string 23 and 4. And the first finger's where it is on a C major chord. So C, C minor. What we can't do is then play all the other strings, otherwise it sounds no good. That's why we bar. So C, C minor is at least an option to give more beginner guitarists a way of playing this song, cause everything else is at a beginner level. So that would be G. D E minor G7. C major, C minor. Major, and that all happens again. Some Those some remain, that's just an option. If you're OK with bar chords, you may prefer to check out the video I'll link to below where we don't use a capo and in standard tune and everything like that. Uh, the rest of the chords to take us through the rest of the song, all we need is E minor. C major. Now we have an F here, we have the F major 7 is absolutely fine, that's why I say there's no bar chord or there doesn't have to be bar chords in this song. Lovers and friends, back to G. Uh, for that F chord, we can also play this hybrid F, which is my favourite because. We can add embellishments, or of course we have the F bar chord. All of those options are great. I still can recall, that is. So all these places have their C major, F major. Ma. And some A major. And then C minor easy option in. My life. I've loved them all. Back to G. Uh, a great strumming option for this is just down, down, up, down, down, up. Um, and we can also add in, down, down, up, up, down, up, because there's a couple of, uh, times we're going before the beat, so to talk you through that, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up. Which coincidentally is the same strumming pattern we looked at in day one of this course, I told you it would crop up a little bit, but it's not with swing. So down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up. Was clearly something that the Beatles leant on quite a bit. These patterns are reused in uh when, when you search for a band's back catalogue like we're doing here. So a full demo of that, let's have a look at this. 234. And then we have this melody which goes over the chords. to G And then all of that repeats again. Let's have a look at this melody now. This uses the G major scale in this key. If we're in the key of A major, it uses the A major scale. This G major scale from the open third string, which without a capo, so treating it um like that would be the G string. That is 02013023, and we wanna come back down of that. So that we can see what notes that we're using and get used to playing a melody with them. It's really good at some point we can all learn to speak without learning the alphabet, but at some point you've gotta learn the alphabet, and the alphabet in this case are scales in the key that um popular songs are in like G major. And the notes that we use to play this melody are 0. To 30132. With finger style, I would assign my first finger index to string 2, middle finger to string 1. If we use the thumb to play the root note, it would be assigned to any one of the thicker 3 strings, that's the principle of finger style. And just the melody. You can even use your first finger for them all, you can even rest the palm of your hand or your little finger. Which again is a very finger style thing to do. Thumb just adds in on the first beat of each uh bar, so 1234. In that fashion, and then you could strum just with the nail. Uh, level 7 has some prep work for it that can really be handy as well, but level 8's where we really dig into finger style.
