String muting for rhythmic/ funk influenced lead and rhythm playing

To be able to jump between rhythm and lead playing effortlessly, we need to mute strings instinctively and effortlessly. This gives us control over the sound and enables syncopated rhythms to shine.

In this video, we cover the four ways that we can mute strings, which includes how this can be done with both the strumming and fretting hand. The four ways are;

  • Right hand palm (simple)

  • Left hand flat and relax (simple)

  • Right hand thumb and fingers

  • Left hand first finger only (plus same with other fingers)
