today we sit down with percussive acoustic guitarist and educator Chris Woods for a wide-ranging conversation about the guitar world as it stands right now. We got into the resurgence of heavy music, the evolution of acoustic guitar from folk and MTV Unplugged through to looping and percussive fingerstyle, and why so many players end up quitting before they find their groove.

Along the way we talked about the role community plays in keeping people motivated, how listening more actively can change the way you play, and I even picked up the guitar mid-conversation to demonstrate a few chord movements I've been enjoying lately.

If you've ever wondered where acoustic guitar is heading, or just want an honest conversation about the joy and frustration of playing, this one's for you.

Radiohead inspired chord progression

See below Chris playing a chord progression inspired by what I (Andy) played in this chat. It's a simple E, A, E, Amin sequence with different chord voicings and simple lead lines to bridge the gap between the chords. The final chord voicing is a way of transitioning from that Amin back to the E major.
