I spent the weekend at the Dan Hawkins Guitar Workshop at WaterBear Music College in Brighton, co-hosted by Dan from The Darkness and Bruce John Dickinson from Little Angels.
We learned classic rock songs in the morning, played them live with a band in the afternoon, and in between I sat down with both of them for one of the most insightful guitar conversations I've had in a long time.
We cover everything from writing riffs that actually stick, why AC/DC's rhythm guitar is so hard to copy properly, using capos to find the perfect key, picking technique, string gauges, vibrato, stagecraft, tempo, songwriting and the little details that separate good guitarists from great ones.
There are so many practical ideas in here that I've already started using in my own playing. Whether you're into classic rock, songwriting, rhythm guitar or just love hearing world-class musicians explain how they think, I think you're going to get loads from this one.
Massive thanks to Dan, Bruce and everyone at WaterBear for an unforgettable weekend.
