Here's how to play the song 'Sometimes' by Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Cinnamon.

The chords & strumming of this two chord song are perfectly suitable for total beginners. The lead lines, single note playing and looper pedal elements are more suited to intermediate players.

Beginner players

This song has just two chords; A major and D major, each played for four bars, which continues in a loop throughout the entire song! Gerry tends to play these chords with a capo at the 2nd fret, swapping the chords for G major and C major. As I demo in the video, the resulting sound is the same. The basic chords and strumming is very much at beginner level.

Intermediate players

The main focus of the video below is on how to use a looper pedal to build layers of acoustic guitar, first with the bass line, then chords, then the lead line. Finally, we'll look at how to use the A major scale to improvise our own lead lines.

Anyone wanting to learn how to get started improvising with these kind of major scale melodies should check out my free Acoustic Lead Guitar course. There is also plentiful help, info and exercises to help you do this in my premium Intermediate Guitar Course.
