Andy takes a deep dive into all things fingerstyle guitar! This lesson aims to equip students with the skills and confidence to play fingerstyle pieces from memory and enjoy the rich musicality that fingerstyle guitar offers.
The lesson covers the core subgenres of fingerstyle music, including Classical, Folk, Blues, Ragtime and Contemporary. Each subgenre is detailed with it's unique characteristics, instrumentation, and notable artists, providing a broad understanding of the different styles and techniques involved in fingerstyle guitar playing.
Students will also benefit from practical exercises and tips to enhance their fingerstyle technique. These exercises include basic fingerpicking patterns, arpeggio patterns, and chord melody integration. The lesson offers valuable advice on practicing slowly, using a metronome, and developing thumb independence. To further aid in learning and memorizing fingerstyle songs, the lesson emphasizes breaking songs into smaller sections, slow practice, repetition, and playing along with recordings. Additionally, popular fingerstyle songs like "Blackbird" by The Beatles and "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas are recommended for practice.
