Learn the entire fretboard with just 4 octave shapes!

Course: Triads & Tricks for Chord & Soloing Freedom

In this video

I believe this method of learning the fretboard will help you hit the ground running and make any other techniques you use afterwards actually make a lot more sense.

Topics covered in this lesson:

  • Note circle

  • 6 key tones

  • barre chords

  • a minor pentatonic

  • c major scale shape 1

Octave shapes quick guide:

  • String 6 to 1 (same note!)

  • String 6 to 4 (power chord shape)

  • String 5 to 3 (power chord shape)

  • String 5 to 2 (C shape)

Note Circle

Counting round the note circle can assist us with finding notes on the fretboard. By looking at this diagram, you could find a C note directly next to a B note going higher up the neck and so on. Or working backwards too of course going lower in pitch.

Well done! Let's jump into the next lesson of the course.
