This is a technique made popular by Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz and Ed Sheeran. We percussively hit the strings and mute to make a snare tap type sound. This pattern is similar to that in the song ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson and ‘Stuck in the Middle With You’ by Stealers Wheel.
