Minor Pentatonic Scale in All 12 Keys

In this video

The ability to move minor pentatonic shape one or any other scale around the fretboard unlocks playing lead in any key!

Using the note circle and your knowledge of string 6 root notes, we'll relocate the familiar A minor pentatonic pattern (5th fret) to other positions like G minor (3rd fret) and B minor (7th fret).

This is just familiarity with the shape, practicing a few times will get this shape firmly in your mind and under fingers.

Example of A Minor Pentatonic Below - See the '5' on the image that shows the fret to start on.

Variation for A Minor Pentatonic below!

Main Learning Points:

  • E minor at the 12th fret connecting to open position E minor pentatonic

  • Focus on the middle octave where most riffs live on the thicker strings

  • Classic riff applications: "Paperback Writer," "Paranoid" combining power chords with pentatonic

  • Introduction to hammer-ons for building speed

  • How all positions relate to familiar chord shapes (G major chord shape connection)
