Open Mic Acoustic Masterclass

In this video

In this live stream I focused on open mic acoustic tips - originally planned as a full course but testing it as a Q&A first. Started by reviewing the brilliant yacht rock submissions from Open Mic Sunday, including Gareth's Hold the Line with his son on keys, and performances from Heather, Steve, and Alan.

The main topic was adapting songs to suit your voice range. I demonstrated with "A Thousand Years" and Highway to Hell, showing how changing keys makes songs singable while keeping their essential character. The trick is finding your vocal range first, then transposing songs to fit rather than struggling with the original key.

Covered power chord techniques in detail, especially sliding between root 5 and root 6 chords with proper thumb positioning and string muting. Used "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" as the gateway song for mastering these transitions. Also worked through Tulsa Time in different keys and teased an upcoming Beatles tutorial. Next week's theme is blues for Open Mic Sunday.
