Welcome to my recommended practice routine and songs for Level 1!

You've made real progress! Now let's establish a practice routine that will keep you moving forward, plus introduce some recognisable songs that use the skills you've developed.

Quick Summary:

  • Effective practice schedule: 10-15 minutes, 3-4 times per week

  • Level 1 skills summary: E and A chords, power chords, single notes, and rhythm

  • Song recommendations: "When Love Comes to Town," "Seven Nation Army," "Peter Gunn Theme"

  • Timing concepts: achieving synchronized playing instead of separate sounds

  • Using amp variety to keep practice sessions interesting

At this level we’ve checked out:

  • The E and A major chords and 1 finger power chords

  • What bars and beats are

  • Spreads and playing on the beat

  • E minor pentatonic scale

  • How to play in time to our Jam Tracks - both single notes and chords

We now need to put all of this into our first routine for 1 week of practice:

  • 15 minutes a day, ideally 3 or 4 times a week to make the best progress

  • Set a timer! We don’t want to play too long - keep those fingers fresh!

  • 5 mins of chord changing or chord progression practice

  • 5 mins of Rhythm practice - Jam along to the Jam Tracks a couple of times!

  • 5 mins of songs, moving to full 15 mins of song practice to finalise this level

Top riffs!

  • U2 - When love comes to town

  • Peter Gunn theme

  • 7 nation army

Short, regular practice sessions are more effective than occasional long ones for building muscle memory. These song recommendations will let you apply your new skills to music you can recognize and enjoy playing.

Course Completed!

Well done! Let's jump into the next course in this pathway.
