This sound can be traced back to "Rumble", an instrumental by American group Link Wray & His Wray Me. First released in 1958, it went onto inspire everyone from Jimmy Page to Bob Dylan and beyond.
Bob Dylan once referred to "Rumble" as "the best instrumental ever". It has been used in movies, documentaries, television shows and elsewhere, including Top Gear, Pulp Fiction, Independence Day, Blow, and even the pilot episode of the The Sopranos.
