14 Day BB Day 3 - G D Em C Lead 90bpm
Build on what we learned yesterday and add a simple riff lead line over the Jam track.
This lead line will feature phrasing in the form of a slide. Phrasing (such a slides, string bends and vibrato) make lead parts sound more lyrical and human, and therefore more emotive and pleasant on the ear.
The aim of this session is to continue learning how chords and scales work together, but this time with lead lines; The G major scale gives us the root notes of all the common chords in the key of G major, but notes in a higher register of the G major and G major pentatonic scale will sound more like a lead solo as they are more easily heard as a lead part over chords and riffs.
In short - same scale lower octave is used for riffs, same scale higher octave is used for lead solos!
Day 3 visual jam track - G major pentatonic lead with slide
If needed, warm up by playing along to the slower jam track at 75bpm.
The end goal of today is to jam along to the track below at 90 bpm.
Day 3 key points - Lead in G using the G major pentatonic
Lead lines tend to use notes in the higher register, either on the thinner strings or higher up the neck, making them stand out over the chords
Phrasing, such as slides or vibrato, gives lead notes a human quality, making them more pleasant or exciting to listen to
