Level 9 brings a more sophisticated, musical edge to your playing by introducing advanced arpeggios and the deeper theory behind why they make solos sound intentional and harmonically rich. You’ll learn to use dominant 7 and major 7 arpeggios - both staples of jazz and modern blues - to add colour, tension, and purpose to your lead lines.
This level also explores the art of mixing major and minor scales, a key ingredient in expressive guitar phrasing, and shows you how to solo confidently over chords outside the key by following the harmony (following the chord) instead of relying on a single scale. Along the way, you’ll pick up a wide collection of pro-level licks used by session players, plus an introduction to hybrid picking to expand your phrasing options.
To round things out, you’ll dive into richer chord vocabulary drawn from funk, blues, and jazz, and study two iconic stylistic approaches: John Mayer-style blues turnarounds and Eric Clapton’s ability to blend rhythm and lead within a 12-bar feel. These studies show how advanced theory and technique translate into expressive, musical playing.
